The most successful designs are inspired from the real life happening in the real world. No matter where you live or what you do, there are many things around you that can inspire you to do something big and succeed in it. There are loads of examples which support the fact that big inventions were inspired from trivial objects.
Designing in general needs lot of thinking and a point to start of. For example, you are designing a brochure for a pharmaceutical company; they want you to highlight a diabetic medicine and its effectiveness. You need to think of something unusual for the brochure front; something that would convey the message effectively without many words. You need to conceive an idea that is related to the effectiveness of the medicine. In other words, you need to draw on inspiration for the design.
Conceiving an idea or the general scenario helps you to take inspiration from your surroundings. It is not limited to certain things. With imagination, sky is the limit. You can fly as high as you want.
Great designs are a work of art.
However, producing a great work of art is dependent on the thinking process through which it gathers the facts and translates it into a compelling design which harvests the message that you want to convey. Simply put, you need to gather facts about the product or the topic of your design, and take it forward with a unique idea that conveys a message aesthetically and clearly to achieve optimal results.
You can also check various designs on internet. Search for the product or a topic you are working on. Check out the designs related to your idea. Remember, a small thing can inspire a great design. If snowflakes or urine particles can inspire a design for wallpapers, anything can inspire you to design the next big thing.
The idea is to look around and observe. Observation is a key skill for graphic designers. Keen observation can do the trick and it won’t take too long. Great graphic designers are keen observers. They might end up looking at the soil in the garden to inspire a great design for that business card.
Similarly, the idea should be good; because a rough idea in your mind is the base of inspiration and imagination. Don’t overlook trivial objects because most of the time a trivial object like a piece of dirt can inspire and it can be very unique. Look around and observe your surroundings. The next big idea is just around the corner. All you have to do is discover it and use it in your designs.
