Why write about both graphic design AND web development?
Time is racing forward and the Internet has changed the rules of graphic design. The role of the modern design professional is nothing like it was a decade back, and the same can be said for web developers. Today’s web designers and web developers must be able to wear a dozen different hats, sometimes in unison, and often sharing headgear.
Web designers must be able to handle standards-compliant websites, design a user interface to present to clients, as well as pick up a bit of server-side code to sharpen an ever growing skill set. Today’s web developers must not only possess the skills needed to navigate the architecture of a modern website, they must also keep their eye on design.
It isn’t just the providers who’ve changed.
Today’s clients expect one stop shopping. Those designers who can do it all, or at least have a basic understanding of the full breadth of services available, are those designers who will see their studios rise to the top of the online heap.
